Sharing seems like such a natural concept, however this trait is anything but natural to my one year old. This was evident last weekend while attending a birthday party for a three and five year old. My son, who was the youngest child at the party, decided a large truck that an older, bigger boy was playing with should be his. He didn’t just tug at the toy, he pulled so hard he almost knocked the child over. I explained that he should share with the other boy or he could wait and play with the truck later. He just kept pulling the truck with all his strength and I finally had to intervene and redirect his attention to another toy. He clearly doesn’t understand the concept of sharing yet. Yes, my husband and I have a lot of work to do, but I hope this “mine, mine, mine” phase will end soon. Then of course there will be another concept to teach him. Ahhh, the joys of parenthood.
